Royals fall just short in season opener at Tioga
The South Prairie-Max Royals opened their football season with a closely contested road game, but a late push was not enough to overcome Tioga on Friday, Aug. 21.
Tioga earned a 24-18 victory, handing the Royals their first loss of the young season. Only one score separated the teams at the end of the game, reflecting a competitive opener in which South Prairie-Max remained within striking distance.
The Royals generated 18 points on the road but could not completely contain a Tioga offense that finished with 24. Although the result was not what South Prairie-Max hoped for, the narrow margin gave the Royals several positives to carry forward.
Week One often serves as an early test for teams as players adjust to game speed and begin applying what they learned during preseason practices. For South Prairie-Max, the contest provided valuable experience while identifying areas that can be improved as the season continues.
