For the first time in over a decade, a sailboat regatta will be returning to Lake Sakakawea. The picturesque event is Saturday and will be headquartered at de Trobriand Marina, Fort Stevenson State Park. Sailboat races begin at noon.
According to a spokesperson for the event, spectators will have an excellent view of the event from the Guardhouse lawn. The regatta should provide the public with a chance to capture great photos as the sailboats race to the finish line.
Information about the Fort Stevenson Regatta, including registration, can be found online at parkrec.nd.gov. A race clinic will be 7:30 p.m., Friday, at the de Trobriand Marina hall. A “Captains Captains’ Meeting is set for 9 a.m. on Saturday. Park officials note that some boat slips will be available for the weekend. Those who would like to rent slips can contact the park at 701-337-5576 for information and prices. The park can also be contacted via email at fssp@nd.gov.
