Boys tournament this weekend
By STU MERRY

The stage is set for a new look McLean County Tournament. The name is different, and so is the format.
The new name is the McLean County Shootout. The two-day tournament is this weekend. Friday, games will be in Washburn and Wilton at  4 p.m. Saturday play begins in Washburn at 12:15 p.m.
The tournament features a number of county teams, but will also include the likes of New England, Warwick, Richardton-Taylor, Glen Ullin-Hebron and Parshall. County teams are Underwood, Washburn, Wilton-Wing, White Shield, Max and Garrison.
Brad Brekke, head coach of the Wilton-Wing Miners, was in favor of the move.
“I really like the new format, I know for us, we weren’t in the county tournament just because we could end up playing the same team four times in a year,” he said.
County school officials had that in mind when they began discussing options following last year’s boys and girls county tournaments.
“It’s nice to play different opponents and this format gives all the teams in the county the opportunity to do that,” Brekke added.
In the format, some teams have committed to play one day, while others will play both days.
