Titans dominate District field
The Garrison Titans checked off one of their biggest goals of the summer with an unbeaten run through the District Legion Baseball Tournament in Washburn, capturing the championship and securing a berth in the American Legion State Tournament in Lisbon.
Garrison defeated the Bismarck Barons, Post 144 Knights and Beulah twice to finish 4-0 in the tournament, including a decisive 15-1 victory over the Cyclones in Monday’s championship game. The district title sends the Titans to the state tournament, scheduled for July 31 through Aug. 4 in Lisbon.
The Titans wasted little time making a statement in Friday’s opening round, rolling to a 13-2 victory over the Bismarck Barons.
Garrison scored twice in the opening inning before breaking the game open with two runs in the third, three more in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to end the contest early. The Titans pounded out 14 hits while allowing just two hits on the mound.
Brody Seidler led the offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Matt Jochim finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Grady Crawford was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Treyson Iglehart matched Seidler with three RBIs while collecting two hits.
Gaige Roberts, Emmit Lagge and Ethan Butman each drove in runs, with Butman knocking in two. Mason Skachenko added a hit and drew a walk.
Slade Nordstrom earned the win on the mound, allowing just two hits and two runs, both unearned, over six innings. He walked three and struck out three.
The Titans followed that performance with a pitching clinic in Saturday’s second round, blanking Post 144 Knights 4-0.
After four scoreless innings, Garrison finally broke through with two runs in the fifth before adding two insurance runs in the sixth.
