Titans finish fourth at district tournament
The Garrison Titans put together two victories to begin the Babe Ruth Baseball District Tournament before a pair of hard-fought losses brought their season to a close with a fourth-place finish.
Garrison defeated Beulah and Belfield during the opening two rounds of the tournament, earning a place among the final four teams. The Titans then fell by one run to the Bears before losing to the Lumberkings in the third-place game.
Despite the tournament losses, Garrison finished an impressive season with an overall record of 16-3.
The Titans opened district play Sunday, July 12, with an 8-3 victory over Beulah. Garrison scored first in the bottom of the second inning and added two more runs in the third to build an early 3-0 advantage.
Beulah scored once in the fourth, but the Titans answered with their biggest inning of the game. Garrison pushed five runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the lead to 8-1.
Beulah scored twice in the sixth but could not complete the comeback.
Garrison recorded six hits and took advantage of five Beulah errors.
Liam Crawford and Nicholas Heinzen each finished with two hits. Heinzen drove in two runs, while Aiden Ferguson and Rylan Pochant each added a hit and an RBI.
Ethan Hagen reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Hoyte Carter started on the mound and worked 3 2/3 innings.
He allowed two hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out four. Hagen handled the remaining 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs with one walk and seven strikeouts.
