Titans get back-to-back no-hitters

It’s not often a pitcher throws a no-hitter. But it’s even rarer that two pitchers would throw back-to-back no-hitters. That rarity occurred this past week for the Garrison-Max Titans Legion baseball team. First, Andrew Haugen went the distance as the Titans defeated Tioga 10-0. In the nightcap, Luke Gehring got his shot, and he was also firing blanks. He, too, went all the way as the Titans again won by a 10-0 count.
Coach Blake Reinholt was nearly at a loss for words after witnessing the feat. “It’s something I haven’t seen since I’ve been a part of Titans baseball,” he said.
Reinholt said the two games, both in Garrison, were some of the best the team has played all year. Haugen fanned 12, while Gehring K’d five of the batters he faced. For Haugen, this was his second no-no of the season. Reinholt said when Haugen gets in a zone, he’s virtually unhittable.
“Andrew has been throwing great all year,” Reinholt said.
Haugen’s first no-hitter came against Crosby earlier this season.
Monday, the boys in blue faced Stanley in another home game. But this time the visitors prevailed in a 9-inning affair, 6-5.
“Against Stanley, we came out and scored three in the first and kind of coasted the rest of the way,” Reinholt said. “It was definitely a game we should have won. Our defense kept us in the game as long as it could.”
The Titans had to battle to keep the game alive, getting out of bases loaded jams in the bottom of the 7th and 8th. “We just couldn’t get runs across to win the game,” he said.
In spite of the setback, and a 7-14 record, Reinholt remains optimistic.
