Titans in the thick of it

Titans in the thick of it
By STU MERRY

Even though the Garrison-Max-Central McLean Titans’ record doesn’t show it – 2-7 overall and 2-3 in sectional play – Co-Coach Jake Hultberg said he feels the team is not that far away from being at the top of its game.
“Teams are even in the section,” he said Tuesday afternoon. “An error here or there will decide a game.”
Weather has played a factor in the Titan’s schedule. A game against Crosby was postponed from June 17 to Tuesday night. A game against Stanley was also postponed.
June 23, the Titans split a pair of games against Tioga, taking the opener 20-14 in a slugfest. In the nightcap, Tioga eked out a 8-7 victory.
Reflecting on the counter (first game) Hultberg observed that the team had its hitting shoes on. He noted the Titans fell behind, but kept their heads up, getting into the batter’s box and “hitting away.”
Tioga had one big inning – the fourth..
“We got behind, but we didn’t let that affect us,” Hultberg said.
Hultberg said he is impressed with the team’s resiliency.
“We have a group of kids that love to play the game and look to push it,” he said.
