Titans, Makoti fail at sectionals

Titans, Makoti fail at sectionals

The American Legion baseball season is over for the Makoti Mavericks and Garrison-Max-Central McLean Titans.
The two teams were ousted from contention this past week at the Section 6 tournament in Lansford.
For the Titans, it was two and out. Makoti lasted one game longer before being dismissed.
The Titans were eliminated by Renville County 11-10 this past Thursday. Makoti lost to eventual Section 6 champion Watford City 7-2 July 21, then was sent packing by Tioga, 11-5 this past Thursday. Makoti opened the tournament, defeating the titans 6-5 July 20. Lamenting the loss to Renville County, Coach Jake Hultberg said the Titans beat themselves by committing a lot of errors on routine plays.
“It’s tough to have confidence and win a close game when everything that can go wrong does go wrong,” he said. “But we were still right in it and just weren’t able to pull it off.”
Hultberg said the Titans hit Renville County’s pitchers really well. Unfortunately, the Titans gave the Muskrats a lot of extra base runners.
“And that’s what killed us,” he said.
