Titans take two

Despite being down four starters, the Garrison-Max Titans still managed to come in third in the seven-team field at the Section 6 Tournament in Garrison last week.
The Titans dropped their first sectional game to Stanley last Tuesday by a score of 4-2, putting them at a serious disadvantage in the double-elimination tournament.
The Titans wouldn’t go down easily though, as they won a 14-12 slugfest over Renville County on Thursday. Randy Essler refused to end his Legion baseball career quietly. Essler went yard twice against Renville County, with grand slam in the second inning and six total RBIs.
On Friday the Titans staved off elimination again, winning a thriller over Tioga, 6-5. After holding a 4-2 lead for much of the game, the Titans gave up two runs in the sixth to fall in a 5-4 hole.
The Titans took a walk off win in the bottom of the seventh thanks in part to sloppy play by Renville County. The Titans scored two runs without picking up a hit as Renville County committed two errors, hit two batters, then gave up the winning run on a fielder’s choice groundout that scored Ramsey Crawford.
Reid Groninger pitched six strong innings for the Titans and picked up the win. Andrew Haugen went 3-4 with two RBIs.
