TLM Trojans third at state

TLM Trojans third at state
A state title wasn’t in the cards for the Turtle Lake-Mercer Trojans, the District 10 and Region 5 representative at the Class B Boys’ Tournament this past weekend in Minot.
The title, instead went to the Linton Lions, a team that went through the season undefeated, capping the year with a 82-63 victory over Dakota Prairie (Petersburg in Nelson County). The Knights relegated the Trojans to the third place game this past Friday, clipping the TL-M 56-54.
In the third place game, the Trojans’ Cameron Malzer wrapped up his senior year in a big way, netting 26, to lead TLM to a 60-57 win over North Sargent (Gwinner). Malzer also eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for his career early in the game.
Fifth place honors went to Watford City who defeated Bowman County 62-46. Seventh place went to North Star (Cando-Bisbee-Egeland) who defeated Berthold 73-56.
In Friday’s semifinal game the ball didn’t bounce the Trojans’ way – literally. Leading by two late in the game a rejected shot by a Trojan defender fell into the hands of Grant Kuebler who drove the lane for a lay-up, knotting the score at 52. Following a missed shot from close in by Malzer a scramble for the loose ball ensued. Diving for the ball, Malzer fouled Alex Herman who calmly and coolly sank a pair of gift shots. A last second shot by Malzer missed its mark and Dakota Prairie moved on.
