Track team sees action

Track team sees action
By STU MERRY
A small contingent of Trooper runners finally saw some action this past week, taking part in the Northwest Conference Meet this past Thursday and Friday at the CNDC Indoor Track Meet. Both competitions were at the Minot State University Dome in Minot. And the results put a smile on the face of Coach Bill Melaas. Jon Price took first in the 3200m run and was runner-up in the 1600m run. McKaila Matteson placed 8th in the 400m dash.
At the Northwest Conference meet Melaas got a glimpse of some pretty good potential in the boys’ division. The 3200m Relay team of Cody Hagen, Matt Knutson, Chris Dimler and Ryan Essler picked up a third place finish in 10:38. In the 4x1 Relay, Hagen and Knutson teamed with Ian MacDonald and Dan Gackle to take fourth in 1:25.5. The same four hit the line in fourth place in the 1600m Relay. Their time was 4:25.39.
“I’m very happy with the way Matt Knutson and Jon Price are running right now,” Melaas said. “Others working very hard are Will Robinson, McKaila Matteson Chris Dimler, Kelsey Young. Kassi Knutson, Sommer Johnson and Jaimee WhiteBear.”
Melaas said it is very nice to have three Trooper baseball players splitting time the track team. The three doing double duty are Cody Hagen, Dan Gackle and Ian MacDonald.
“All tracksters ran and jumped well,” observed Melaas, looking back at both meets.
