Trooper ladies split two

By STU MERRY

The Garrison Lady Troopers’ record stands at 9-2 after the team went 1-1 over the past week.

Monday, the ladies hosted Parshall, winning going away, 73-48. Jan. 7, the Troopers were stunned by District 10 competitor Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky in a big way, 55-40.

Coach Sandra Essler said the team needs to avoid ebbs and flows.

"At this point of the season were looking for some consistency," she said.

The Troopers led most of the first quarter against the Braves, Monday, but the scoreboard showed a 16 all tie at the horn. Parshall took a brief four-point lead to start the second, but that didn’t last long.

With pressure cooker defense forcing turnovers, Garrison went on an 11-1 run to take control two minutes into the quarter. That lead jumped to nine at the half, 36-27.

The second half was all Troopers. Ellie Gehring continued her torrid home scoring pace, canning 13 of her game-high 24 in the final two quarters. Cousin Shelby scored 10 of her 18 in the second half.
