Trooper rally falls short

By STU MERRY

The Garrison-Max Troopers varsity volleyball team just didn’t have enough in the tank this past Thursday.

The Troopers, No. 6 in the district, squared off against No. 4 Center-Stanton. At stake, a spot in this week’s Region 5 Tournament. When the last whistle sounded, the scoreboard read Center-Stanton 3, the Troopers 2.

The Troopers opened the tournament, falling to Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky 3-1. For the Wildcats, they fell 3-0 to No. 5 seed Washburn. The losses set up the match-up for the regional win and advance match.

The Wildcats drew first blood, taking the opening two games. Game 1 was 25-18. The second was closer, 25-21.

Down 2-0, the Troop could have called it a season and gone home. Instead, the ladies dug deep, and with resilience, won the next two games. Scores were 25-20 and 25-15. The Troop had new life. It came down to one game. Whoever reached 15 first would live to play another day.
