Troopers close season at Region 4 tournament

The Garrison Troopers softball season came to a close Tuesday, May 19 during the Class B Region 4 Tournament in Wilton, as the Troopers fell to Harvey-Wells County in the play-in round.
Despite the difficult ending, head coach Jacque Schiable said the season was defined more by perseverance and development than wins and losses, as the Troopers battled through a challenging year to finish with an 0-11 record.
Garrison entered postseason play facing a difficult situation before the first pitch was even thrown.
Due to scheduling conflicts and weather-related changes caused by heavy rain across the region, the Troopers were short-handed entering the tournament matchup.
Harvey-Wells County took advantage early, scoring nine runs in the opening inning before adding 12 more in the second on the way to a 21-0 victory in three innings.
Although the final score was lopsided, the Troopers continued to battle offensively throughout the game and showed signs of improvement at the plate.
Garrison finished with three hits in the contest, led by Alexis Kastner, who recorded two hits in two at-bats. Kaida Gislason added another hit and also drew a walk, while Cara Schlehr reached base with a walk.
Rainie Evans and Molly Coble also worked walks during the game as the Troopers attempted to generate offense against a strong Harvey-Wells County squad.
