Troopers compete wire-to-wire in loss to Washburn

The Garrison Troopers boys basketball team showed stretches of strong execution and competitive intensity on Tuesday, Jan. 13, but were unable to sustain momentum late as visiting Washburn pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a 53–44 victory in District 8 action.
The Troopers opened the game strong defensively, keeping Washburn out of transition and limiting clean perimeter looks.
After one quarter, Garrison trailed just 12–9.
The second frame saw the Troopers find their rhythm on the offensive end, attacking the lane and getting to the free-throw line.
Garrison posted a 25-point first half total, outscoring Washburn 16–17 in the period and cutting the deficit to just five at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Washburn increased its pace and defensive pressure, forcing the Troopers into tougher shots and generating turnover opportunities.
Garrison continued to battle, with both teams trading scoring runs in a lively third quarter that ended with Washburn holding a 37–35 advantage.
