Troopers continue working at offensive breakthrough during tough week
The Garrison Troopers softball team continued to battle through a challenging stretch last week, dropping a pair of Region 4 contests against Heart River and South Prairie-Max as the team looks to regain momentum heading deeper into the regular season.
Garrison opened the week Tuesday, May 5, hosting Heart River in district action. The Cougars used a fast start and a productive offensive afternoon to secure a 22-0 victory in three innings.
Heart River struck early with six runs in the opening inning before adding four more in the second. A 12-run third inning placed the game out of reach as the visitors finished with seven hits while capitalizing on walks and defensive opportunities throughout the contest.
Despite the final score, the Troopers continued searching for positives offensively. Alexis Kastner accounted for Garrison’s lone hit of the game, finishing 1-for-1 at the plate. Cara Schlehr also reached base with a walk, while Avery Melby added another free pass.
Kaida Gislason, Sienna Starr, Kamryn Gislason, Chelsea Rime, Jocelyn Zimmerman and Mason Hanson each recorded plate appearances for the Troopers as the team continued working to generate offensive consistency.
In the circle, Schlehr handled all three innings for Garrison. She recorded six strikeouts while facing a difficult Heart River lineup that consistently pressured the Troopers on the bases and at the plate.
