Garrison-Max Troopers kicked off its football season in Glenburn on Friday with a loss to the Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn Sioux.
The Sioux outnumbered the Troopers by almost double with 34 players.
“I thought it went how we expected. Some of those kids had never played football before. With only 18, players we need everyone,” Garrison Head Coach Justin Folk said.
It was also the stifling heat that affected the boys. At the 7 p.m. kickoff, the temperature was still 90 degrees.
With 8:04 left in the first quarter, the Sioux scored their first touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Three minutes later they scored again with another two points, bringing the first quarter score to 16-0.
The second quarter brought more of the same with another touchdown and two extra points.
During the last drive of the second quarter, the Sioux intercepted the ball and ran in for another the touchdown and was successful with the two-point conversion.
The score at halftime was Glenburn 32, Garrison 0.
