Troopers gain No. 1 seed

Troopers gain No. 1 seed
By STU MERRY

The Garrison-Max Troopers volleyball team scored a huge victory Monday night, overpowering Wilton-Wing 3-0. The win assured the Troopers of the No. 1 seed in the District 10 Tournament. The tourney is scheduled for Nov. 1, 2, 4 in Wilton.
The win comes on the heels of another key district win this past Thursday against Washburn. In that match, the Troopers prevailed 3-2.
The G-M ladies have reeled off six wins in a row, prior to the Tuesday non-district contest at Surrey.
What’s been clicking for the team?
Head Coach Sarah Lee said although it is different than years past, each girl has really worked to be flexible in whatever position they can help the team with.
“We are working on becoming smarter volleyball players and recognize key points in the volleyball match versus just having to work harder,” she said.
“Another element that has helped them has been the use of new offense understanding and offensive shots,” Lee said.
As the district tournament nears, Lee said the coaching staff and team are constantly honing things the players can control – passing, defense, and serve-receive.
