Troopers open season with road win

The Garrison Troopers girls basketball team tipped off their 2025 campaign with a strong road performance on Saturday, defeating Richardton-Taylor 53–41 in a season-opening matchup that showcased both promise and early-season growing pains.
Though Garrison controlled the scoreboard throughout the afternoon, Head Coach Matt Chase emphasized that the victory also highlighted important areas for improvement as the team moves deeper into December.
“We weren’t as disciplined as I would’ve liked on both ends,” Chase said following the win. “I think everyone was just excited and at times lost focus of their assignments as individuals and as a team.”
Despite those lapses, the Troopers managed to maintain momentum through timely scoring and defensive stretches that kept Richardton-Taylor from mounting a serious comeback.
The Troopers’ balanced offensive output offered an encouraging sign of things to come. Garrison was led by McCall Chase, who opened her season with a team-high 15 points, attacking the rim with confidence and providing consistent production across all four quarters.
Cara Schlehr and Abby Heinzen each added 11 points, giving Garrison multiple options in the half-court and helping stabilize possessions when the offense briefly stalled.
Addy Iglehart delivered a promising season debut with 9 points, contributing energy and assertiveness off the dribble.
Peyton Rime chipped in 5 points, while Sadie Majeres rounded out the scoring with 2.
Still, Coach Chase reiterated that the Troopers would need to dial in their focus as the schedule stiffens.
