Troopers open season with win over Medina/P-B

Garrison opened the season with a 62-45 victory over Medina/Pingree-Buchanan in the Dakota Shootout, Dec. 9, in Linton.
The Troopers never trailed in the game, and MPB had trouble getting its offense going after Rylen Wick, its leading scorer from last season, went down with a foot injury just seconds into the game. Two field goals apiece by Braxton Iglehart and Treyson Iglehart gave Garrison a quick, 8-0 lead just two minutes into the game, and MPB couldn’t get on the board until Chase Ova put in a short jumper at the 5:35 mark of the opening period.
Ova scored all 10 of his team’s points in the first quarter, and his second three-pointer of the frame capped a 10-3 run by the Thunder that narrowed the gap to 13-10 with 1:20 left. B. Iglehart’s field goal on Garrison’s ensuing trip closed out the scoring in the period, and the Troopers took a 15-10 advantage into the second quarter.
