Troopers split results against VDA, Bishop Ryan
The Garrison Troopers baseball team experienced a mix of frustration and promise over a two-game stretch last week, falling to Velva-Drake-Anamoose at home before bouncing back with a high-scoring win on the road against Bishop Ryan.
Garrison opened the week on April 16 against Velva-Drake-Anamoose, dropping a 6-3 decision despite matching the visitors with five hits.
Early defensive miscues proved costly, as the Aggies capitalized on opportunities to build a lead the Troopers could not fully erase.
Velva-Drake-Anamoose struck quickly, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and adding another in the second to take a 5-0 advantage.
Garrison answered with a run in the bottom of the second, but struggled to generate sustained offense against the Aggies’ pitching.
The Troopers chipped away again in the fourth inning, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 5-3. Aiden Ferguson delivered an RBI in the contest, while the offense pieced together contributions throughout the lineup.
Slade Nordstrom, Aiden Ferguson, Brody Seidler, Ethan Butman, and Laken Beyer each recorded hits for Garrison. Seidler also showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks and reaching base three times.
Despite the offensive effort, defensive struggles hindered the Troopers’ chances. Garrison committed five errors in the game, leading to extended innings and unearned runs for Velva-Drake-Anamoose.
