Troopers split week

The Garrison Troopers boys basketball team navigated a demanding stretch last week, dropping a non district contest at home before responding with a strong road win as the calendar turns toward the most important games of the season.
Garrison opened the week on Tuesday, Feb. 3, hosting Ray in a matchup that was competitive early before the visiting Jays pulled away for a 75 to 59 victory.
The Troopers came out sharp in the opening quarter, edging Ray 21 to 18 after one, but Ray’s offensive rhythm picked up in the second period and continued through the remainder of the game.
Ray used a strong second quarter to take control, outscoring Garrison 22 to 14 before the break.
The Jays continued to apply pressure offensively in the second half, extending the margin despite Garrison’s continued effort on both ends of the floor.
Grady Crawford led all scorers with 30 points, carrying the offensive load for the Troopers. AJ Fuller added 13 points, while Brody Seidler finished with 11.
Gaige Roberts chipped in three points, Jed Heidbreder scored two, and Garrison worked to stay within striking distance as Ray steadily built its lead.
While the final score did not go Garrison’s way, the Troopers showed flashes of what they are capable of when clicking offensively, particularly in the opening quarter.
