Troopers surge late against Washburn, prepare for key district stretch
The Garrison Troopers girls basketball team continued its strong mid-season form on Tuesday, Jan. 13, rallying from an early deficit to defeat district rival Washburn 39-31.
The victory moved Garrison to 2-1 in District 8, 4-1 in Region 4, and 10-3 overall as they enter a critical three-game stretch that could shape their postseason seeding outlook.
Washburn opened the contest with pace and perimeter rhythm, jumping out to a 12-7 lead after one quarter.
The Cardinals’ length and rebounding also limited early second-chance scoring opportunities for the Troopers.
In the second quarter, Garrison settled into its defensive sets and began finding more success attacking the lane, outscoring Washburn 17-19 in the period to narrow the halftime margin to 31-24.
