The Garrison Lady Troopers kept their district record spotless throughout the regular season, earning the top seed in the District 10 Girls Basketball Tournament this week in Underwood. Because of their unblemished 6-0 district record, the Troopers earned a bye for the first round.

Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky, finishing 4-2 in the district, earned the number two seed and will take on seventh-seed (0-6) Center-Stanton in Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. game.

Third seed went to Max, also 4-2 in the district, who will take on sixth seed Underwood, a team that finished the district season at 2-4. Tip-off is at about 7 p.m. Thursday night.

Overall, the Cossacks ended the regular season 14-4 with a 65-49 win over a good Sawyer team this past Saturday.

Coach Marlo Huesers observes the Cossacks’ shooting percentage has improved recently and defense is doing a good job. "As of today (Monday) the girls are healthy and healed from a few sprained ankles," he said.

Huesers thinks district tournament play should be interesting as any team could win  on any given  night. "The girls are ready to get the tournament started," he said.

The tournament opens with fourth-seeded Wilton-Wing (3-3) taking on fifth seed Washburn, which finished the season at 2-4. Game time is at 4 p.m.
