“Well the Dakota Winds Golf Course really lived up to its name this week,” said girls golf coach Loni Hall, referring to 40 mph winds that gusted between 50-60 mph during the state golf tournament in Hankinson.
The Garrison-Max Troopers shot a 913, good enough only to place 13th in the 18-team field. Despite shaving 59 strokes off their score from day one (486) to day two (427), the Troopers were unable to overcome a poor first day of the tournament.
“The scores were higher, which is expected when playing on a more difficult course,” said Hall, “The course also doesn’t have many trees, so there was no protection from the wind. On the second day the weather was much better, allowing the girls to shoot closer to their average scores.”
Brittny Riemer had the best score for the Troopers, shooting a 213. “Brittny did very well on Wednesday, which placed her among the top 50 golfers in the state,” Hall said.
This was the Lady Troopers’ 12th consecutive state tournament appearance, dating back to 2000.
