911 addresses nearly ready for roll-out

By Suzanne Werre

The new county addresses that correlate with the 911 emergency system is pretty much ready to roll, with some residents already using their new addresses. Updating of the addresses had stopped some time last year due to COVID, but started back up again after Jan. 1. “We had over 2000 address changes,” said McLean County E911 Coordinator Richard Johnson. For those who don’t know what their new official address is, notifications will probably be going out in April. When Commissioner Steve Lee asked Johnson if property owners could change their addresses if they don’t like the new ones they’ve been given, Johnson said they do have to comply with the 911 standard. According to Johnson, once notified, property owners will have a time limit wherein they will need to start using the new addresses. The county is also working on making the new addresses available to the public online as soon as possible so people will be aware of their new addresses. Resident Marlin Leidholm addressed the commission regarding the lack of access to his property at Falkirk following the posting of a Road Closed sign. “It’s basically the main access to that property. The other access is across the railroad tracks, and if a train is there, there’s no access to the property,” said Leidholm.
