$96,000 grant secured

By CHERYL ODDEN

On Monday, U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced that a local organization will receive $96,000 to develop two commercial lots near Garrison.

The funds will go to the Garrison Area Improvement Association (GAIA) to bring water and sewer infrastructure to the two lots. The goal of the upgrade is to help alleviate a shortage of commercial business space for the city.

Keith Witt, GAIA executive director, said the organization is frequently contacted by individuals who would like to start or expand businesses in the Garrison area.

With limited options available, Witt said the GAIA board of directors welcomes an opportunity to make additional commercial lots available. He added, "We’re excited and hopeful this project will move along quickly."
