RYDER — Organizers of the Ryder-based Community Food Pantry will have something to look forward to this year: a new location as the pantry was gifted with a home in nearby Makoti. “This is something we never even dreamed of,” said pantry coordinator Kathy Kimball before correcting herself. “Well, we dreamed of it. We never thought it would come to it. We’re tickled pink.” She said that the home was a pretty nice Christmas present. “On Dec. 23, we signed the paperwork and did the closing,” Kimball said. “And it’s ours.”
While the idea of finding their own accommodations was something in the horizon, it was an idea that never came to fruition. Kimball said that she looked around Ryder, Makoti and Plaza to find a place, but couldn’t find a place that suited their needs. Ryder food pantry to move to Makoti this spring “Ryder had nothing that was wheelchair accessible. That’s one of our big things,” she said. Makoti had “several, but they are privately owned. Plaza is the same way.” In all, Kimball said the entire process of receiving the house has “just been a blessing sent to us.”
