A new officer with the Garrison Police Department started Tuesday.
He was approved for hire at the Garrison City Council meeting on Monday evening.
Officer James Jabara comes with six and a half years of experience, most recently in Renville. He had been offered the position previously but was worried about COVID-19 and moving his family. After reconsideration, he decided to accept the position starting this week. Police Chief Travis Tesch will be training with Jabara for roughly a week , then he will be patrolling on his own. He will be started at $47,000 for an annual income.
Officer Erin Suttle was offered a position last month but has since declined the offer due to issues with moving her family from Pennsylvania to Garrison.
Alderman Curt Olson voiced concerns over the amount of patrol coverage Garrison is getting.
“Once you are up to staff with three officers, I would really like to see us getting back to having more coverage and presence on the streets,” Olson said. “Especially on the night shifts.”
Tesch replied, “Once we get fully staffed, we will get back to our regular coverage.”
The patrol SUV that the GPD received from Tioga is getting the Garrison striping put on and the title has been received from Tioga.
Garrison City Auditor Diane Affeldt submitted for the August to October CARES Act for Law Enforcement and Garrison received $28,378.
