Airport renovation underway

By STU MERRY

Air traffic at the Garrison Airport is nonexistent this summer. That doesn’t mean it’s quiet.

To the contrary, the facility is seeing lots of activity, only it’s by the land craft description.

Work is underway on a major reconstruction of the runway. Work includes other adjoining projects.

The project includes reconstruction of the runway with bituminous pavement, grading a portion of the runway and crack sealing.

Work also includes replacement of edge markers, reconstructing the fueling apron including PCC Hardstand and MIRL System (medium intensity runway lighting).

The work is being done by Meyer Construction, Dickinson. The contract, or time frame from beginning to completion, is 90 days.

Steve Weiland, resident observer for Kadrmas Lee & Jackson, the engineering firm for the project, said officials want to make sure the public is aware of the haul route.
