All-school reunion this weekend

All-school reunion this weekend

Abundance of activities planned
By CHERYL ODDEN

Even though there isn’t a huge sign at the entrance to the city, the message is huge – welcome home!
Those who attend an all-school reunion in Garrison this weekend will not only experience a hearty welcome, they will find a wide assortment of activities.
Those who are registered – or who register upon arrival (Thursday, Friday or Saturday) will receive a tote bag with an alumni directory, a Garrison magnet and an assortment of information and special offers to use while in the area.
Class gatherings, Thursday and Friday, will allow alumni to easily locate some of their fellow classmates. Those who want to stroll down memory lane can do so by touring Garrison schools Friday afternoon. Additional memories might be sparked by a visit to the public library on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Library displays will include GHS memorabilia and news articles of interest.
Three dances, two Friday evening and one on Saturday, will give GHS grads and other guests an opportunity to mingle – maybe even the chance to dance with a high school sweetheart. Each dance will feature live music.
Golf enthusiasts can compete in two alumni golf tourneys that are scheduled for Friday and Saturday mornings. Prefer baseball? No problem – Friday’s Alumni Baseball will provide a chance to crack a bat and to run the bases.
Of course, the reunion wouldn’t be complete without food. Lunch will be available each day at a hot dog stand at City Park. Special evening fare will also be available at the City Park (registration required). Friday’s meal will be a catered picnic and Saturday’s fare will be a pitchfork fondue.
The majority of Garrison alumni graduated before the Queen Elizabus, an English double-deck bus became a city attraction. For a modest fee, the public can catch a ride and tour in style.
Anything else? Oh yeah – everyone loves a parade. Garrison’s Main Street will provide a good vantage point for a reunion parade that will be early afternoon on Saturday.
