Area schools transition to online learning

The unknown is the new normal in Garrison.
Last Thursday and Friday the students at Garrison High School were given 10 minutes to get their Chromebooks, text books and anything else that they may need for the transition to the new online learning platform. The students were broken up into groups of 10 and assigned times throughout the two days.
A similar situation went on at the elementary school. Students were again broken into groups of ten and sent into the school’s gym. Library books were to be turned in and text books and packets of homework were to be picked up.
Teachers have been working diligently preparing lesson plans to continue education through an online platform. They will also be using some online tools to interact with their students during the home-based learning times.
“We will begin our blend of learning alternatives,” Klemisch stated in a post Monday on the Garrison Public School App.
As of now, the high school has no new updates on spring sports and activities, prom or graduation.
“Our hope is the curve will flatten soon and we will be back to normal,” Klemisch continued in the post. “Thank you for bearing with us as we enter uncharted educational territory.”
Garrison teachers will remain working at the high school and decisions will be made week to week.

Max School has taken another approach with their elementary students.
