Absentee voting increases

The General Election is still about three weeks off, but already about half of the eligible voters in McLean County have or will be casting their ballot via the Vote-by-Mail method.
There are 6,303 active voters in McLean County. As of Tuesday, more than 2,700 requests for Vote-by Mail ballots have been received at the courthouse.
Lori Foss, deputy auditor, said about 20 requests for Vote-by-Mail ballots are received daily, but that number has tailed off as the time frame to receive and return ballots closes.
Nearly 100 completed Vote-by-Mail ballots are received daily. But Foss said more are expected with 64 percent still in the hands of the voters.
In the inaugural Vote-by-Mail during the June Primary Election, about 2/3rds of eligible county voters cast their ballot via the mail. Of 3,322 ballots cast, 2,245 were done via mail.
While a number of county voters have opted to cast their votes via the mail, there are others who prefer heading to the polls come election day.
There are four voting sites in the county. Sites and polling hours for the General Election include: White Shield Complex – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting centers are in Garrison (City Auditorium), Turtle Lake (City Hall) and Washburn (Memorial Hall). Hours will also be 7 a.m., to 7 p.m.
