Board, citizens unite to promote bond issue

In just two months, patrons of the Garrison School District will have an opportunity to support a bond issue. The bond vote will be Nov. 4 in conjunction with the 2014 general election.
In the light of two failed attempts to garner the required number of "yes" votes, several citizen supporters have joined an effort to promote its passage.
Architect Wayne Whitty (Anderson Wade & Whitty pc, Minot) will make minor adjustments to plans in order to trim construction costs. The school board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee, along with the citizen group, agree that the move could make the upcoming bond election more attractive to voters.
By shaving proposed space for vocational education and student dining at the high school, Whitty said the cost estimate could be lowered to $5.9 million. While it’s higher than the $5 million bond request that failed earlier this year, the increase is attributed to higher construction costs. Whitty told the group, "I don’t think we’ve out of line with the way construction costs have been around here."
