Board pay kept at $100 per meeting

Board pay kept at $100 per meeting

They were in the minority: Two members of the Garrison School Board said they thought the compensation for attending meetings was excessive. But at the regular board meeting this past Thursday, they were outvoted by four of their peers.
Currently Garrison School Board members are paid $100 a meeting, regardless of the type of meeting. Compensation was almost $25,000 this past year, although one board member, Bonnie Nygard, returned her check for a second year in a row. The policy stands for the 2012-2013 year, although it wasn’t without some spirited discussion.
Board member Janis Sloka made a motion that pay not exceed $100 a day, regardless of the number of meetings.  Nygard seconded his motion. For example, the three meetings this past Thursday totaling less than two and half hours netted board members $300 each. One meeting was 13 minutes, one was about 40 minutes and another was just over an hour.
