Boy Scout world tour

Boy Scout world tour

BY TYSON SMEDSTAD
When he started Cub Scouts at seven years old, Evan Rensch, now 12, would have never guessed that it would take him halfway around the world. The Minot Boy Scout Troop #1433 offered the opportunity for the entire troop to go on an educational trip to Taiwan. Rensch, his mother Danielle, three other Scouts and their parents took the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the world.
Rensch’s journey started with a six hour drive to Winnipeg, then a flight to Vancouver, on to Shanghai and finally landing in Taipei 41 hours after they left Garrison.
Leading up to the trip, Rensch said he was most excited to see Taipei 101 (the second tallest building in the world) and to ride one of the world’s fastest trains.
While in Taiwan, Rensch had a chance to experience everything from classes in Chinese culture, calligraphy and a Chinese culinary course.
