Brannan announces retirement

By STU MERRY

A 12-year run as Garrison’s top administrator will come to an end June 30. Superintendent Steve Brannan has announced his retirement. School officials and board members learned of Brannan’s plans this past week.

In a letter given to school board members during the canvassing of bond issue ballots Feb. 11, Brannan said he’d been considering retirement since late this past fall. He carried through this past week. He emphatically said the recent failure of a bond issue did not in any way play into his decision.

He wrote; "It’s not an easy decision for me to make. I could not have landed at a better school for my first real experience with public education."

Brannan’s past experience includes superintendent at a pair of parochial schools, Bismarck St. Mary’s Central High School and Trinity High School in Dickinson. When he came to Garrison, Brannan had a combined 28 years of teaching, coaching and administration experience.

Brannan praised the board for its commitment to providing the best educational environment possible.
