Budget cuts strike close to home
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Omaha District will close multiple recreation areas across South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Montana on May 1.
The reasons cited are staffing and resource limitations, which USACE said affect its ability to open and maintain recreation sites and services.
According to USACE, the adjustments are being made to ensure visitor safety, protect environmental resources and sustain critical hydropower and dam operations across the Missouri River Basin.
