Business returns to ‘hometown’ owners

After more than 20 years, a Garrison implement dealership is under local ownership.
Terry Metz and Duane Hummel, both natives of Garrison, recently purchased Garrison Equipment, Inc. from Orlan and Peggy Richter of Bismarck.
Since assuming ownership, Metz and Hummel have taken on new duties. Hummel, who worked at the location for 12 years and was formerly parts manager, is general manager. He and his wife Julie have two children. Their son Bryce is a senior at the University of Mary and their daughter Jessica will be a senior at Garrison High School.
Metz, who has been a staple at the business for 36 years, began as a mechanic. He later worked as both manager and service manager. Metz’s new role is that of assistant manager. He and his wife Maggie have four grown daughters – Michele (Torey) Seidler, Melinda Goldade, Melissa (Corey) Lauer and Melanie (Ward) Heinzen. They have eight grandchildren.
Along with new ownership comes a new name. The partners named their new enterprise Lakeside Machinery Inc.
In addition to Metz and Hummel, Lakeside Machinery employs seven full-time workers. And, after a parts person is hired, the employee roster will contain eight names.
