Committee talks classroom crunch

A check for $54,366 will be received soon by the Garrison school district from the state for rapid enrollment growth. Superintendent Steve Brannan said he planned to ask the board to earmark that money toward building improvements.
The check would be a down payment on improving the elementary and high schools, and is a far cry from the $9 million that the administration was hoping the voters would support in a Nov. 13 bond election.
Seven administrators, board members and staff gathered Tuesday afternoon to hash over what can be done – before another bond election – to remodel and reconfigure both schools to meet the needs of the next year’s classes. The committee will meet again at 2 p.m. Monday to come up with a firm plan to take to the full board at its Dec. 18 meeting.
