Community loses a visionary

Stroup remembered as dedicated businessman

  By STU MERRY

A man described by those who knew him as dedicated to his business, Garrison State Bank & Trust, and his community, has died.

Wayne Stroup, 98, passed away Monday morning at CHI St. Alexius Health-Garrison. His funeral is 11 a.m., Friday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Three who worked closely with Stroup shared their thoughts.

Garrison State Bank Agency’s Mike Matteson describes Stroup as a man who led his employees by example and put his full faith in them to do their job without a lot of oversight.

Sharing one’s talents with the community and urging staff to take the time to attend their children’s activities was also important to Stroup, he added.

"He rewarded us for our dedication," Matteson said.

Stroup’s work with Quinco, Foresome, Garrison Motel, KOTA Theatre/SACA, Dollars For Scholars, Garrison Golf Course and countless other projects were signs that he cared deeply about every facet of this community he chose to make his home 60 years ago, Matteson said.
