County asks for busdget cuts

By STU MERRY

It’s only February, and the scissors is being brought out to trim the fat off an already lean McLean County budget.

At their meeting Tuesday, Feb. 2, commissioners discussed what steps should be taken to cut expenses. A 5 percent across the board cut is being recommended.

Reviewing the numbers, commissioners raised their eyebrows.

"Looking at this, I think we’re going to have to look at cutting some stuff," said commission chair Steve Lee. "I believe better sooner than later."

Throwing out a scenario, Lee added: "We don’t want to be sitting here in October saying, ‘gee whiz, we can’t make payroll’."
