County assessing contract presented

By STU MERRY

Garrison city officials got a look Monday night at a proposed contract to turn over assessment duties to McLean County.

The proposal is for residential only. The proposal (per parcel) is: New, improved city properties $75; New unimproved city properties $20; Properties in Vanguard System per year $4; Minimum annual fee $150.

The cost this year for 1,444 lots is $5,926.

The county has indicated it will not assess commercial property at this time. But, commercial property’s assessed values will be increased 10 percent across the board.

City officials are still pursuing options to contract for commercial property assessments.

County officials had proposed reassessing all residential parcels in Garrison. At this point, city officials do not think a reevaluation of the city is necessary and does not support that proposal.

In other business, the council:

•Reviewed the Sales and Use Tax report from the request by the Garrison All School Reunion Committee for $10,000. The funds would be used to pay expenses associated with the reunion. $5,000 would come via a grant and $5,000 through a loan. A stipulation is the loan would be paid back to Sales and Use Tax.

•Had a first reading for a change to add "restaurant" to the light industrial ordinance regulation. All council members supported the change except Alderman Marcus Matthews who voted "nay."
