County enrollment is strong to steady

McLean County and area schools are experiencing a bit of an enrollment jump.
According to information provided by school officials, Garrison, Max, Underwood, Washburn, Lewis and Clark North Shore, Wilton and White Shield have a few more students filling desks this year compared to one year ago. Only Turtle Lake-Mercer reported a decline, but that was only two students.
Underwood Elementary School Principal Barb Robinson told Underwood News Editor Alyssa Schafer the school has a net gain of one student. She told Schafer that she expects it will be a great school year.
“The first day was busy, but good,” she said.
Underwood High School Principal Gene Utecht said junior high enrollment stayed exactly the same. He said the year looks good because he has a veteran teaching staff. Figures for grades preschool through Grade 12 this year stands at 226.
Washburn Superintendent Brad Rinas said enrollment has not changed much since last year either. Enrollment from preschool through Grade 12 at Washburn is 285 compared to 281 last year.
There are 157 students enrolled at Turtle Lake-Mercer this year, compared to 159 one year ago.
Wilton School officials reported that enrollment stands at 235 as school gets underway. That figure is an increase of eight from last year’s numbers.
Like their fellow McLean County counterparts, the school year at Garrison is off to a great start as well, according to school administrators Steve Brannan and Shelley Fuller.
