Damper on Dickens, second weekend set

First it was ice, then snow, then fog. Weather took a toll on the first weekend of the Dickens Village Festival, slashing the number of visitors and sales.
But the festival planners aren’t short on enthusiasm. Dick Messerly, Dickens chairman, said, “Don’t compare the weekend to the best Thanksgiving weekends we’ve had, compare it to a day without Dickens.”
The festival kicks off Friday and runs through Saturday, with a better forecast in store.
Sales are brisk for entertainment and the play. A Victorian Tea has been added 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the UCC Congregational Church, ½ block east of city park.
