The same day Velva will host a grand opening on its new school addition, dozens of people will gather 65 miles away to discuss what to take to voters for a Nov. 13 $9 million bond election.
Two school board members, a principal and two administrators from Garrison met Tuesday with the district’s architect to set the wheels in motion for a remodeled high school and elementary school with additions of 24,000 square feet. The next meeting is Monday, Oct. 22, of a group of invited individuals who will decide how to educate the public about the upcoming vote.
The meeting Tuesday was the next step after an Oct. 4 unanimous vote by the school board members to proceed with an election to finance the school improvements. Wayne Witty, architect, updated the cost estimates from previous plans and the group did a little finetuning.
