Dickens packs 'em in

By STU MERRY

It was probably one of the best weekends of the Dickens Village Festival ever.

Those are the sentiments of local business owners, and Dick Messerly, co-chair of this year’s festival, and McKaila Matteson, Garrison CVB director.

The two summed up the weekend:

"Everyone wanted to take part in everything," said Matteson.

Messerly said Friday and Saturday were two outstanding Dickens days.

"It will go down in the annals of probably the best we’ve ever seen as far as people and sales," he said.

Messerly reported food vendors sold out of their wares within about an hour on Saturday.

"It was wall-to-wall people," he said.

One of the vendors, Rick Hultberg with McLean Family Resource Center’s sausage on a stick booth, said Saturday was a banner day.

"It was the best ever," he said.

The Queen Elizabus was filled to capacity for every run Saturday. More than 550 people took in the experience throughout the weekend.
