Ambulance staff meet with students

It was a CliffsNotes version of emergency medical training, but the 90-minute presentation to more than 15 Garrison High School students this past Friday is just what members of the Garrison-Max Ambulance Service hope will entice new people to consider serving on the department, or consider a health care profession.
Members of the Garrison-Max Ambulance Service showed what it’s like to be a first responder, EMT or paramedic to a group of 17 Garrison High School students. Students watched a video detailing duties of a paramedic and EMT. They also watched a video recreating a traffic accident that involved students.
Presenting were ambulance service paramedics Steve Holloway and Jared Bichler. The two said there are opportunities for students in emergency services. They encouraged the students to consider being a part of the ambulance service.
Garrison resident and GHS grad Nicole Folden is an EMT with the ambulance service. She said her decision to become an EMT has been very rewarding. Folden said emergency service personnel provide a vital service to the community. "If there wasn’t us … then who?" she asked the students.
