Equipment failure causes blackout

It was late on a seemingly typical Thursday morning, but Krause’s closed up shop, Shannon Staehr standing guard by the doors and letting people know the refrigerators had to stay closed and the tills had quit running a half hour ago. According to Staehr, the freezers can stay cold enough for six hours without power, and have done so in the past.
At the Four Seasons, the kitchen staff tried their best to keep cooking what they could, weak gray light streaming in through the front windows.
The folks at S & J Hardware was able to make the most of things, continuing to unload new inventory and selling a handful of flashlights for cash, noting the transactions on a sticky-note pad.
