Fishing committee disbanded

Fishing committee disbanded

The Garrison Chamber of Commerce is generally regarded as a progressive group. Part of that is due to its members and the chamber committees on which they serve. Being progressive often means trying new activities and scrutinizing existing ones to see if they are still relevant.
During the group’s final meeting of the year (Monday) several suggestions were proposed as changes for the upcoming year.
During a meeting Monday, Tod Graeber, 2010 chamber president and a member of the group’s Executive Committee, recommended that the Fishing Committee be dissolved. He noted that the idea originated with Fishing Committee members and that the suggestion was based on the committee’s inactivity. (The Fishing Committee was involved with operation of the Fall Walleye Classic, a tourney that has not been held for a few years).
When a vote was called on the matter, chamber members unanimously supported dissolving the committee. Discussion did not include how the committee’s funds would be reassigned.
Noting that Executive Committee members feel the chamber-sponsored annual Block Party “has run its course,” Graeber suggested the event be discontinued. He said the chamber’s Trade Promotion Committee, organizer of the event, should decide the fate of the summer kick-off event.
